Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy) has joined forces with the Philippines' Department of Transportation (DOTr) to pioneer the development of hydrogen technologies and infrastructure in the country. The strategic partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to fast-track the deployment of HDF's Renewstable® hydrogen power plants in the Philippines. These plants will provide renewable electricity to public power grids and produce green hydrogen to aid in decarbonizing heavy maritime and rail transport. The collaboration signifies a significant milestone in the Philippines' shift towards sustainable energy generation and eco-friendly transportation. HDF Energy plans to construct up to 15 Renewstable® power plants across the country, representing a substantial investment of USD 1.5 billion. By combining intermittent renewable energy sources with on-site energy storage in the form of green hydrogen, the plants can offer continuous, non-intermittent renewable power supply, supporting the electric grids of various provinces. The partnership also includes the development of green hydrogen infrastructure to fuel hydrogen-powered maritime vessels and locomotives, aligning with the country's goal of sustainable transportation. This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to climate innovation and energy transition, as highlighted by the involvement of top officials from both the Philippines and France in the signing ceremony. The collaboration is set to bring tangible benefits to communities in the Philippines by promoting energy security and low-carbon transportation solutions.
