Denmark-based Skovgaard Energy and Sumitomo Corporation have established a joint venture to drive e-SAF and biogas production in Denmark. Operating under the North Sky brand, the partnership aims to harness the local strengths of north-west Jutland alongside a global outlook from Tokyo. Sumitomo's entry into biogas production marks a significant step towards advancing its energy solutions division, focusing on bioenergy for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The collaboration targets an annual production of around 40 million cubic meters of biogas, equivalent to the gas consumption of 20,000 Danish households. Denmark's ambitious goal to transition its national gas grid entirely to biogas by 2030 aligns with the partnership's objectives. Furthermore, the increased demand for e-SAF, a synthetic fuel derived from biomass-derived CO2 and green hydrogen, indicates a growing market for sustainable fuel alternatives. Sumitomo's strategic initiatives extend beyond Denmark, with projects like the Morisora project in Japan and partnerships in Malaysia, underlining its commitment to bioenergy and biomethane development.
