South Korea is focusing on the development of hydrogen-related businesses by planning the construction of two hydrogen clusters in the east coast provinces. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the intent to build a special industrial complex for hydrogen storage and transportation in Donghae and Samcheok, Gangwon Province, starting in March next year. Additionally, a hydrogen liquefaction plant is scheduled for construction in Samcheok following an economic feasibility study. The city of Pohang in South Gyeongsang Province will also establish an industrial complex to manufacture hydrogen fuel cells, aiming to become a prominent hub for hydrogen battery exports. The total investment from the government and private sector for these projects is estimated at 507.8 billion won. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive industrial ecosystem covering the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to utilization.
