Hydrogen Duqm (HyDuqm) is among the pioneering green hydrogen and ammonia projects underway in Oman, scheduled for a Final Investment Decision in 2027, with production expected to start by 2030. This joint venture, involving key players like POSCO Holdings, Samsung Engineering, and others, is strategically focusing on clean energy production from green hydrogen. In 2023, the project secured a concession to develop a green hydrogen project with an emphasis on producing 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. The partners are currently engaged in assessing the potential of wind and solar energy resources and conducting feasibility studies to determine the project's financial viability and profitability before moving forward with the engineering design phase. PTTEP subsidiary FTEV's involvement in HyDuqm further strengthens PTTEP's presence in Oman's energy landscape, aiming to leverage their expertise in green hydrogen production in Thailand. The ongoing feasibility study includes various assessments such as geographical, geotechnical, and hydrological evaluations, along with a Preliminary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (Pre-ESIA) to ensure the project's sustainability. The project's progress signifies a significant step towards Oman's green energy ambitions and highlights the growing interest and investments in clean energy projects in the region.
