Werner Enterprises, a transportation and logistics provider, has introduced an International RH Series hydrogen fuel cell truck into its fleet, underscoring a dedication to sustainability and innovation in the industry. The 2021 Class 8 vehicle, featuring a 226-in. wheelbase, is powered by technology from Accelera by Cummins, offering zero-emissions operation through a hydrogen fuel cell engine and electric powertrain. The truck is currently on display at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas. Werner is committed to testing various innovative fleet technologies such as biodiesel blends, battery-electric vehicles, and compressed natural gas engines to improve fuel efficiency and reduce pollution from freight operations. Chad Dittberner, Werner's SVP of One-Way Network, emphasized the significance of integrating the hydrogen fuel cell truck in achieving the company's goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 55% by 2035. The collaboration on this initiative involves industry leaders like Accelera, Navistar, and the U.S. Department of Energy, aiming to shape the future of transportation through sustainable practices.
