Brisbane-based innovator Stralis Aircraft has reached a groundbreaking agreement with two Japanese universities, emphasizing its commitment to developing hydrogen-electric aircraft technology. The Queensland Government's trade mission to Japan facilitated this partnership, aligning with the Queensland–Japan Trade and Investment Strategy 2025–2028. Stralis aims to lead the industry in producing emission-free, high-performance aircraft at scale, leveraging green hydrogen as a clean and economical solution. The collaboration with Akita University and Akita Prefectural University will focus on enhancing aircraft propulsion systems, workforce training, and joint research, promoting international technological cooperation. This initiative, supported by IHI and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ), is set to create research and innovation jobs in Queensland, strengthening the state's industrial base. Additionally, the agreement underscores the significance of critical minerals like beryllium, cobalt, and rare earth elements in aerospace technology, highlighting the need to secure their supply chain amidst rising global demand.
