Three Western Australian companies based in Perth, namely Athena Resources, Warradarge Energy, and Fenix, have come together to establish a joint venture known as the Mid West Green Iron Project. The primary objective of this collaboration is to produce green iron by utilizing locally sourced iron ore and green hydrogen. Athena Resources will contribute its high-grade magnetite, while Warradarge Energy will supply the necessary green hydrogen, and Fenix will provide logistics and port services, thus creating essential capabilities for green iron production. This initiative is driven by the abundant renewable energy resources and magnetite deposits present in Western Australia, aiming to compete on a global scale in the green iron market. The project will be strategically located in the Mid West region, taking advantage of the partners' existing projects. The planned stages of development include feasibility testing by 2026, followed by the construction of small and full-scale plants for commercial production.
