Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently inaugurated 24 state-of-the-art Volvo buses in Solan, marking the state's commitment to providing top-tier transport facilities. Significant funds have been allocated to enhance the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), including the procurement of 500 diesel buses, 300 electric buses, and 30 Volvo buses. To further improve transport services, the government plans to acquire 100 Tempo Travellers and has been providing a monthly subsidy of Rs. 60 crore. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of road transport in a state limited in rail and air connectivity, with HRTC buses being the primary mode of travel. Efforts are underway to develop Himachal Pradesh as a 'Green Energy State,' promoting hydrogen-powered and electric buses, and planning to establish more charging stations with a Rs. 110 crore investment. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri praised the 50-year journey of HRTC, highlighting its vital role in providing daily transport for lakhs of passengers. The government plans to expand the fleet with 250 new buses, improve services to remote areas, and offer financial benefits to employees. The operation of Volvo buses is expected to drive state revenue and enhance travel comfort, reflecting the government's efforts for sustainable and efficient public transport.
