NTPC, the state-owned power giant in India, has made significant strides in the field of sustainable transportation by handing over five hydrogen fuel cell buses to SIDCO in Ladakh, making it India's first commercial deployment of such buses. This move not only signifies a milestone in India's green mobility efforts but also establishes a global benchmark by running hydrogen buses at the highest altitude in the world. In November last year, NTPC had launched the world's first hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, which is located at an elevation of 11,562 feet above sea level and is integrated with a 1.7 MW solar plant to meet all operational power needs with renewable energy. The hydrogen mobility project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 350 MT/year and contribute 230 MT/year of pure oxygen to the atmosphere, equivalent to planting 13,000 trees yearly. NTPC, known for its significant contribution to India's power sector, has an installed capacity of over 81 GW and is actively working towards expanding its renewable energy capacity, with a target of achieving 60 GW by 2032.
