The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) achieved a significant milestone by handing over five hydrogen fuel cell buses to SIDCO in Leh, India, marking the country's first commercial deployment of hydrogen-powered buses. These buses, which emit only water vapor, will begin operations in Leh, contributing to reduced air pollution and climate impact. The initiative is part of NTPC's focus on clean transportation and renewable energy solutions. In addition to the buses, NTPC inaugurated the world's first green hydrogen mobility station in Leh, operating at 11,562 feet with power from a 1.7 MW solar plant, ensuring the production of renewable and eco-friendly hydrogen. The project is expected to have substantial environmental benefits, cutting carbon emissions by 350 metric tonnes annually and generating oxygen equivalent to 13,000 trees. NTPC, as India's largest power producer, is expanding its renewable portfolio to reach 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032, showcasing its commitment to sustainability. This green hydrogen project in Ladakh not only addresses environmental concerns but also places India at the forefront of adopting hydrogen as a clean fuel in challenging terrains.
