President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has expressed optimism about Africa becoming a global leader in green hydrogen production. During the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town, he highlighted projections of creating between two and four million jobs by 2050 in the green hydrogen sector. The summit, attended by African energy ministers, policymakers, investors, and technology partners, aims to strategically shape Africa's green hydrogen industry. The collective ambition is to achieve 30-60 tonnes of green hydrogen production by 2050. Ramaphosa emphasized that green hydrogen can leverage Africa's mineral resources and renewable energy to decarbonize industries, generate employment opportunities, attract investments, and foster inclusive growth. The summit serves as a platform for collaboration and strategic planning to position Africa as a significant player in the global green hydrogen economy, shifting from being viewed solely as a resource extraction site.
