Kenya and Germany recently collaborated to launch the first Eastern Africa Regional Green Hydrogen Symposium in Nairobi. This symposium brought together over 250 delegates from various sectors to focus on unlocking the region's green hydrogen potential. Energy CS Wandayi highlighted the significance of green hydrogen in supporting clean industries, sustainable fertilizers, and youth employment, stressing the need to move from discussions to practical actions. Germany, through its development cooperation agency GIZ, announced a substantial investment of Sh14 billion (€100 million) in Eastern Africa's green transition. The two-day event, co-hosted by Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and GIZ, aims to position Kenya and the broader Eastern Africa region as pioneers in green hydrogen development. The symposium features ministerial sessions, investment showcases, and technical panels on regulation and financing. EACREEE and GIZ are expected to introduce a new program to scale up hydrogen development in the East African Community. With a focus on concrete actions and partnerships, the symposium aims to propel Eastern Africa from potential to progress in green hydrogen initiatives.
