The port of Klaipeda in Lithuania is taking significant steps towards sustainability by becoming the first in the Baltic region to install an electrolyser for the production of green hydrogen. This initiative aims to supply green hydrogen not only to maritime and road transport users but also to support the port's operations. The 2.25MW electrolyser facility, expected to start construction in June and begin hydrogen delivery in 2026, is a €12m project with €5.7m in EU funding under the NextGeneration EU scheme. It is designed to produce 127t/yr of hydrogen at full capacity and will be housed in a standard 40-foot sea container. Lithuania's ambitious target of achieving 1.3GW of electrolyser capacity by 2030 demonstrates a strong commitment to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources and reducing carbon footprint.
