The Western Cape government in South Africa has unveiled an ambitious Green Hydrogen strategy aiming to produce 15 gigawatts of green energy and export over 400,000 tonnes of hydrogen by 2035. This initiative is part of the national energy goals and is expected to drive economic growth, job creation, and energy security in the Western Cape region. The province's leadership believes that green hydrogen is crucial for transitioning towards a low-carbon, high-growth future, citing its solar, wind, and port resources as ideal for attracting green energy investments. President Cyril Ramaphosa, speaking at the Africa Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town, emphasized the importance of the Africa Green Hydrogen alliance in creating significant job opportunities, with projections indicating the potential for two to four million jobs by 2050. The summit convened African energy stakeholders to strategize the development of the continent's green hydrogen sector, with more than 52 large-scale hydrogen projects already in the pipeline across Africa.
