Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has inaugurated a 5MW Green Hydrogen Plant at its Bina refinery in India on April 26, 2025. The facility is one of the largest in the country and aligns with India's Net Zero targets for 2070 under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. With a production capacity exceeding 780 tonnes annually, the plant is set to reduce carbon emissions by about 9,000 tonnes per year. The project includes two high-capacity electrolysers, each with a capacity of 500 Nm³/hr. Remarkably, the plant was completed in just 15 months, showcasing speed and cost-efficiency in the Indian public sector oil industry. This initiative marks a crucial milestone in BPCL's efforts to achieve Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The joint announcement by BPCL and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, government of India, highlighted the significance of this green technology project in advancing the nation's environmental goals.
