In a significant development, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, unveiled the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India (GHCI) during a national workshop held in New Delhi on 29th April 2025. The workshop, aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the green hydrogen sector, highlighted the pivotal role these enterprises can play in India's transition to sustainable energy sources. Minister Joshi stressed the importance of MSMEs in fostering innovation and providing localized solutions, aligning with India's goal of achieving self-reliance in green hydrogen production by 2030. The GHCI launch signifies a crucial milestone in ensuring transparency and credibility in green hydrogen production and trade within the country. By enhancing investor confidence and establishing a robust framework for the sector, the certification scheme is poised to drive growth and development in the green hydrogen market. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, a key initiative, envisions positioning India as a global leader in green hydrogen production, utilization, and export. By setting ambitious targets for capacity expansion, renewable energy integration, job creation, investments attraction, import reduction, and emission cuts, the mission aims to significantly transform India's energy landscape. The workshop comprised technical sessions that delved into vital aspects such as technology collaboration, business opportunities, decentralized production through biomass, and attracting investments. With an emphasis on fostering partnerships, integrating MSMEs into large-scale projects, promoting rural energy solutions, and facilitating financial support, the event provided a platform for stakeholders to collaborate and drive the green hydrogen agenda forward.
