Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced plans for another hydrogen hub in Kuching, as part of Sarawak's efforts to solidify its position as a leader in Southeast Asia's hydrogen economy. The state's flagship green hydrogen projects, H2ornbill and H2biscus in Bintulu, are progressing well and are on track to complete their Front-End Engineering Design by the end of the year. Sarawak aims to become a leading green economy hub in the region, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity. The state's energy strategy includes the development of strategic energy-related hubs, with a key emphasis on renewable energy, natural gas, carbon capture, and hydrogen. Initiatives like robust cross-border interconnections for power exports and the development of gas hubs underline the state's commitment to clean energy. Sarawak's focus on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) and the launch of the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub further demonstrate its commitment to energy transition.
