Toshiba Corporation is set to unveil its SCiB™ lithium-ion battery at Asia Sustainable Energy Week 2025 in Bangkok, emphasizing its role in driving sustainable energy in Asia. The battery offers an 80% recharge in six minutes and a rated lifespan of over 20,000 charge-discharge cycles. This technology, based on lithium-titanium-oxide anode chemistry, is being tested in a Battery-as-a-Service pilot for motorcycle-taxi drivers in Bangkok, aiming to reduce downtime and costs for fleet operators. The SCiB battery's thermal stability addresses fire-safety concerns in the region's heat, facilitating its adoption in various vehicles like electric delivery vans and coastal vessels. Toshiba is also exploring applications in electric city buses and collaborating with Airbus on hydrogen-cooled electrical propulsion for zero-emission aircraft. By presenting the SCiB battery as a versatile solution for Asia's energy transition at ASEW 2025, Toshiba hopes to gain traction in the market and revolutionize clean energy practices across different sectors.
