Aberdeen City Council is ambitiously striving to establish a 'hydrogen valley' in the North East through the TH2ISTLE project, which has secured significant funding from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership under the Horizon Europe programme. This initiative aims to integrate hydrogen production, storage, and end-use applications, aligning with Scotland's commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Building on Aberdeen's reputation as one of Europe's energy leaders, the project is set to drive economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability in the region. By strategically locating five hydrogen production sites and aiming to produce 627 tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2028, the project seeks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and enhance energy security. The potential for job creation is substantial, with projections of up to 13,000 new jobs by 2030, particularly focusing on upskilling the existing oil and gas workforce. The collaborative effort of 30 partners underscores the commitment to leveraging Aberdeen's energy heritage, skilled workforce, and renewable resources for a successful transition to a greener future.
