Andritz, the international technology group, has launched a gigafactory in Erfurt, Germany, to cater to the rising demand for green hydrogen in Europe. The facility, operational since March, boasts a remarkable production capacity of up to 1.1 GW, allowing for the annual manufacture of around 160 to 200 electrolyzers. These electrolyzers, which employ advanced technology from partner HydrogenPro, are pivotal in the production of green hydrogen. Notably, the gigafactory's flexibility enables it to adjust production based on the specific needs of customers in the region. The initial batch of electrolyzers from the plant is slated for integration into Salzgitter AG's 100 MW hydrogen plant, which plays a crucial role in promoting low-carbon steel production. The collaboration between Andritz and HydrogenPro underscores the commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the steel industry and addressing the escalating demand for green energy solutions across Europe.
