BMW, Hyundai, and Toyota have come together to form the Hydrogen Transport Forum (HTF) in Australia with the goal of advancing hydrogen-powered transport solutions. This initiative, highlighted by Fuel Cell Works, focuses on accelerating the development and deployment of hydrogen technology in the country. The HTF aims to address infrastructure gaps, enhance industry collaboration, and promote hydrogen's role in reducing emissions in the transportation sector. The forum will work towards aligning fleet demand with refueling infrastructure, advocating for supportive government policies and funding, and raising awareness among the public and industry stakeholders about the benefits of hydrogen in achieving low-emissions transportation. While electric vehicles are currently dominant in zero-emission strategies, the HTF emphasizes the importance of hydrogen for heavy-duty and long-range applications due to factors like fast refueling times and high payload capacities. Taking inspiration from Europe's H2Accelerate coalition, the HTF plans to launch officially at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show and expand its engagement to include stakeholders from transport, infrastructure, and energy sectors in the future. The founding partners expressed their commitment to building a robust hydrogen refueling and vehicle ecosystem to facilitate Australia's transport transition towards sustainability.
