Europe is witnessing a surge in green hydrogen projects, particularly in the Netherlands, where two major offshore initiatives, Zeevonk and OranjeWind, are revolutionizing the energy landscape. The Zeevonk project, led by Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure, harnesses offshore wind turbines and floating solar panels to produce hydrogen in Rotterdam, aligning with Europe's goal of producing 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Similarly, the OranjeWind project, a collaboration between TotalEnergies and Air Liquide, aims to produce green hydrogen using energy from the OranjeWind offshore wind farm, with a 250-MW electrolyzer set to reduce emissions by 300,000 tonnes per year. These projects signify a shift towards sustainable energy practices and highlight the potential for offshore wind projects to drive green hydrogen production. By 2030, Europe aims to install 40 GW of renewable hydrogen electrolyzers to further boost hydrogen production. The developments in the Netherlands are part of a broader European effort to embrace clean energy solutions and pave the way for a hydrogen-powered future.
