The upcoming third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Belgium will shine a spotlight on hydrogen, a key element in decarbonizing motorsport. Since 2018, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), FIA WEC, and Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps have been actively promoting hydrogen through various events at the Ardennes venue. This includes the introduction of the MissionH24 program and the inauguration of the TotalEnergies mobile hydrogen station, as well as demonstrations of hydrogen vehicles like the LMPH2G and H24. These initiatives aim to educate spectators on the potential of hydrogen as an alternative energy source.
During the event, a hydrogen village will be set up in the public fan zone, featuring a 700-bar TotalEnergies mobile H2 station to refuel the Alpine Alpenglow and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Yaris H2 Concept cars. These cars will showcase zero-CO2 emission capabilities through demo runs and static displays. Racegoers will also have the chance to engage with Technical Director Bassel Aslan from MissionH24, learn about hydrogen production, and explore the various uses of hydrogen through interactive activities.
Additionally, a hydrogen forum in collaboration with Hydrogen Europe will target European educators to raise awareness about hydrogen as a new energy source. The forum aims to introduce a dedicated hydrogen category in the FIA WEC by 2028, emphasizing the growing importance of hydrogen technology in the world of motorsport and beyond.
