India's AM Green and Port of Rotterdam Partner to Create $1bn Green Energy Supply Chain
Key Ideas
  • AM Green and Port of Rotterdam sign MoU to develop a green energy supply chain worth $1bn, aiming to link India's net-zero clusters to Europe.
  • The partnership focuses on developing key port infrastructure for the distribution of hydrogen-based fuels and products, enabling exports of up to one million tonnes per year.
  • The collaboration aligns with the goal to meet global demand for green fuels like sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), contributing to decarbonizing the aviation industry.
  • Another partnership between renewable energy firms from India and Germany also aims to produce up to one million tonnes of green ammonia annually, powered by renewable energies.
AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have entered into a commitment to establish a green energy supply chain valued at $1bn. This collaboration seeks to connect India's net-zero clusters to Europe by enhancing port infrastructure for the distribution of hydrogen-based fuels and products. The goal is to support AM Green's target of developing five million tonnes of green ammonia production capacity by 2030, equivalent to one million tonnes of green hydrogen. The initiative also aligns with the rising global demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which can potentially decarbonize a significant portion of the aviation industry by 2050. The Port of Rotterdam's strategic location and advanced infrastructure make it an ideal partner for this venture, aiming to facilitate 20 million tonnes of hydrogen equivalent throughput per year by 2050. Additionally, a separate partnership between Indian and German renewable energy companies aims to produce one million tonnes of green ammonia annually in Andhra Pradesh, India. This $1.3bn project will utilize renewable energy sources to power electrolysis for the production of green ammonia, with a dedicated pipeline for export to international markets, helping to reduce over 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
