The Adani Group has made a significant advancement in India's transportation sector by deploying the country's first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics in Chhattisgarh. This innovative move is part of the conglomerate's commitment to promoting cleaner transportation and reducing the environmental impact of logistics operations. The hydrogen fuel cell trucks, equipped with smart technology and three hydrogen tanks, are designed to carry up to 40 tonnes of cargo over a 200-kilometre range. By gradually replacing diesel vehicles with hydrogen-powered trucks, Adani Enterprises aims to set new standards in sustainable practices within the industry. The flagship company of the Adani Group, Adani Enterprises, collaborated with Indian and international energy technology firms and a major auto manufacturer to develop these advanced hydrogen fuel cell battery-operated trucks. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the first truck in Raipur, emphasizing the state's commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon footprint. The truck will be utilized to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state's power plant, showcasing the state's dedication to adopting clean energy solutions. The project signifies a joint effort between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both entities of Adani Enterprises. ANR will source hydrogen cells from ANIL, which is also involved in green hydrogen production, wind turbines, solar modules, and battery manufacturing. By incorporating hydrogen fuel cell technology in mining logistics, Adani Group aims to lead the industry towards decarbonization and responsible mining practices. Hydrogen, being the most abundant element and producing no harmful emissions, holds great potential for transforming the transportation sector. The hydrogen fuel cell trucks offer comparable range and load capacity to diesel trucks but emit only water vapor and warm air with minimal noise. Adani Natural Resources has been at the forefront of implementing innovative technologies like Dozer Push Semi-Autonomous Technology to enhance safety and sustainability in mining operations. The project not only aims to reduce emissions and noise in mining activities but also contributes to lowering India's oil imports and overall carbon footprint.
