AM Green BV Acquires Stake in Greenko Energy for Green Energy Expansion
Key Ideas
  • AM Green BV acquires 17.5% equity stake in Greenko Energy Holdings from ORIX Corporation, enhancing its position in the green energy market.
  • ORIX invests in a convertible note issued by AM Green to have exposure to green hydrogen, ammonia, SAF, and other next-gen molecules, aligning with its strategy.
  • Greenko, with 10 GWs of operational renewables and plans for significant green ammonia and hydrogen production, plays a key role in AM Green's expansion.
  • AM Green's comprehensive plans include building the world's largest 'Intelligent Energy Storage Cloud Platform' and developing various sustainable energy projects like low carbon caustic soda and bio-based products.
AM Green BV has finalized the acquisition of a 17.5% equity stake in Greenko Energy Holdings from ORIX Corporation, through its subsidiary AM Green Power BV. This move will increase AM Green's ownership to around 25% post-closing in July 2025. ORIX has also agreed to invest in a convertible note issued by AM Green (Luxembourg) S.à.r.l, providing ORIX exposure to green hydrogen, ammonia, SAF, and other next-gen molecules. Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder and CEO of AM Green, highlighted this transaction as a significant step towards creating a fully integrated and scalable green energy platform. The acquisition strengthens AM Green's position through Greenko, a leading renewable energy company in India with 10 GW of operational renewables and plans for a significant daily storage capacity by 2030. Key highlights of the acquisition include a stake in Greenko, plans for green ammonia and hydrogen production, and late-stage projects for low carbon caustic soda, SAF, ethanol, and bio-based products. AM Green, founded in 2023, is a major Power-to-X platform focusing on industrial decarbonization solutions. They are working on projects like green ammonia production in Kakinada, India, and have signed agreements with global companies for green ammonia supply. AM Green is actively participating in green hydrogen tenders in India and aims to produce low carbon caustic soda and synthetic fuels. AM Green is also constructing an industrial complex in Kakinada, set to be the world's largest green industrial zone. This complex will include facilities for green ammonia production, electrolyzer manufacturing, and SAF and green chemical production. The acquisition of Chempolis in 2024 further strengthens AM Green's Bio2X platform, enabling the conversion of biomass into valuable products like cellulosic ethanol and bio-based chemicals. Greenko's pumped storage projects and AM Green's ambitious plans collectively reflect a positive shift towards sustainable energy practices and decarbonization in the region.
