Andhra Pradesh aims to lead India in the green hydrogen revolution by targeting 1 MMT green hydrogen capacity by 2030. Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar highlighted the state's ambition at an event in Amravati. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet, sets the target for India to produce 5 MMT of Green Hydrogen annually by 2030. NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) plans to establish a massive green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, and Hero Future Energies also eyes a green hydrogen plant in Tirupati. These endeavors are set to attract investments worth Rs 1.85 lakh crore, signaling a significant commitment to clean energy. While challenges like cost competitiveness, water scarcity, and infrastructure gaps exist, the state is actively addressing them through policies promoting the green hydrogen ecosystem. Shekhar emphasized the importance of investor participation in the integrated value chain, from electrolyser fabrication to derivative fuels, leveraging state incentives and policies to propel the green hydrogen transition forward.
