Building a Green Energy Corridor: Connecting India and Europe via Rotterdam
Key Ideas
  • AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam have signed an MoU to establish a green energy supply chain connecting India and Northwestern Europe through Rotterdam.
  • The collaboration focuses on bunkering fuels, Sustainable Aviation Fuels, and developing infrastructure for terminals to boost low-carbon energy solutions.
  • The partnership aims to link India's Net Zero Industrial Clusters to European markets, potentially exporting up to 1 million tons of green fuels annually, fostering trade worth up to USD 1 billion.
  • AM Green's ambitious plan includes building a 5 MTPA green ammonia production capacity by 2030 to meet global demand, positioning them as a key player in the clean energy transition.
AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a green energy supply chain that will connect India and Northwestern Europe via Rotterdam. The focus of this collaboration will be on providing bunkering fuels and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) while also analyzing the infrastructure requirements for terminals in Rotterdam and across Northwestern Europe. The goal is to strengthen international trade in low-carbon energy solutions. One of the key objectives of this partnership is to develop strategic port infrastructure for storing and distributing hydrogen-based fuels and products. This initiative aims to connect India's Net Zero Industrial Clusters to European markets, with the potential to export up to 1 million tons of green fuels annually, amounting to a trade value of up to USD 1 billion. AM Green has set an ambitious target of establishing a 5 MTPA green ammonia production capacity by 2030, which is equivalent to around 1 MTPA of green hydrogen. The initial production will commence in Kakinada, India, to cater to the increasing global demand for green energy. This move positions AM Green as a significant contributor to the clean energy transition. The CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Boudewijn Siemons, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of establishing a robust supply chain for low-carbon fuels and chemicals. Anil Chalamalasetty, the Founder of AM Green and Greenko Group, highlighted the strategic significance of this partnership in advancing global growth in green fuels. The Port of Rotterdam plays a crucial role in the region, the Netherlands, and Europe by creating economic and social value, supporting employment, and ensuring a secure supply of essential resources. The Port Authority is committed to sustainable development and aims to operate as a climate-neutral, future-proof logistics hub in harmony with its surroundings.
