In a significant development, Coal India Limited (CIL) has unveiled plans to provide 4500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green's upcoming green ammonia facilities. This substantial renewable energy contract will be fulfilled through a combination of solar and wind power, with CIL aiming to establish capacities across India. The solar capacity is projected to range from 2500 MW to 3000 MW, while wind power is expected to be between 1500 MW and 2000 MW, involving an approximate investment of Rs. 25,000 Crores. AM Green, associated with Greenko Group, is set to integrate the renewable energy sources supplied by CIL with pumped hydro storage to ensure a consistent green energy supply to their facilities. Noteworthy is AM Green's ambition to produce 5 million tons per annum of green ammonia by 2030, equivalent to about 1 MTPA of green hydrogen and a substantial portion of India's green hydrogen production target. A formal memorandum of understanding for long-term renewable energy supply was signed between CIL and AM Green in May, underscoring their joint commitment to sustainability and energy transition. The agreement signifies a pivotal step towards a greener future and signifies CIL's proactive role in fostering sustainability alongside meeting India's energy needs. The deal was commended by key figures from both entities, highlighting the strategic importance and potential impact of this large-scale renewable energy initiative.
