At the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 in New Delhi, India's Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the pivotal role of renewable energy in driving the growth vision for the North East region. Highlighting the vast untapped renewable energy potential in the North East, the Minister discussed the region's capabilities, including over 129 GW from large hydro projects and more than 18 GW from pumped storage plants. He described the North East as India's 'Ashtalakshmi', emphasizing the transformation of its natural resources into wealth through green power. The Minister showcased major investor interest in the region, with 115 MoUs signed worth ₹38,856 crore, promising significant job creation and development. Special initiatives, like allocating 10% of MNRE's budget for the North East and providing enhanced financial assistance, aim to accelerate clean energy projects. The region is also gearing up to become an energy export hub, strategically positioned for cross-border electricity trade, aligning with global trends towards sustainability. Shri Joshi urged industry leaders to seize the potential of the North East, offering comprehensive government support for investment in renewable energy to drive impact and sustainability.
