Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the viability of mass-use of Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in India. HMIL has provided one Hyundai NEXO Hydrogen FCEV to IndianOil for real-world testing on Indian roads over a two-year trial period covering around 40,000 km. The collaboration will evaluate the longevity, operational reliability, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the Indian market. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, highlighted the aim to combine world-class Hydrogen fuel cell technology with Indian expertise, making Green Hydrogen accessible, affordable, and sustainable. Dr. Alok Sharma from IndianOil emphasized Hydrogen fuel as a vital component in India's clean energy roadmap and how fuel cell technology can aid in achieving net carbon neutrality. The partnership between HMIL and IndianOil aims to foster a hydrogen ecosystem, advancing efforts towards carbon neutrality, energy security, and sustainable mobility. Additionally, HMIL is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) to establish a 'Hydrogen Innovation Centre' to drive innovation and development in Green Hydrogen technology, providing a platform for startups and OEMs to test their components and quality.
