The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has proposed a new system of registration plates for hydrogen-powered vehicles to simplify their identification. According to a draft notification issued recently, these new number plates will have distinct colour codes based on the vehicle type. For hydrogen fuel-powered vehicles, the plates will feature a combination of green and blue backgrounds, with the text colours varying depending on the vehicle's use. Commercial hydrogen vehicles will have plates with a green upper half and a blue lower half, with yellow lettering. Private hydrogen vehicles will sport the same green-blue design but with white lettering. Vehicles used as rental cabs will showcase plates with a black top half and a blue bottom half, along with yellow lettering. The primary objective of this initiative is to make hydrogen-powered vehicles easily identifiable while also promoting the adoption of green and eco-friendly mobility solutions across India. By introducing these specific registration plates, the government aims to encourage the use of hydrogen as a cleaner fuel option and contribute to the overall sustainability goals in the transportation sector.
