India has taken a significant step towards promoting green hydrogen with the launch of the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme (GHCI). The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced the initiative in New Delhi, emphasizing the importance of transparency and traceability in green hydrogen production. The scheme aims to provide a framework for certifying green hydrogen, ensuring market credibility and promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources. A key focus of the GHCI is to involve Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the green hydrogen supply chain. The National Workshop held to mark the launch highlighted the pivotal role of MSMEs in driving India's energy transition through their innovative capabilities and local solutions. With over 300 delegates participating, including MSMEs, policymakers, technology providers, and industry associations, the workshop facilitated discussions on the opportunities for MSMEs in the green hydrogen ecosystem. This move is expected to boost the renewable energy sector in India and strengthen the country's commitment to sustainable energy practices. The GHCI is set to enhance transparency, market credibility, and traceability in green hydrogen production, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly energy landscape in India.
