The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, recently inaugurated key technological initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and productivity in India's maritime sector. These initiatives include the launch of the SAGAR SETU platform and a Digital Centre of Excellence (DCoE) in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). The DCoE will focus on accelerating digital transformation in the maritime industry by providing advanced IT solutions and promoting innovation through technologies like AI, IoT, and Blockchain. Aligned with national maritime objectives, the SAGAR SETU platform seeks to improve operational efficiency and streamline logistics processes by integrating various service providers. Additionally, a standardized Scale of Rates (SOR) template was released for Major Ports to enhance transparency and ease of doing business. In a significant move towards sustainability, a report titled 'Gateway to Green: Assessing Port Readiness for Green Hydrogen Transition in India' was published. This report, developed in collaboration with the Indian Ports Association (IPA), outlines a roadmap for transforming Indian ports into hubs for green hydrogen production, storage, and export. It identifies strategic areas such as land facilitation, demand stimulation, shared infrastructure investment, international collaboration, and active investment roles. The efforts highlight India's commitment to sustainability and energy security, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to position the country as a global leader in green hydrogen production. The focus on digital transformation, sustainable infrastructure, and green energy initiatives reflects a positive sentiment towards enhancing efficiency and sustainability in India's maritime sector.
