Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed India's progress in reducing logistics costs by 6% during the 12th edition of The Times Group’s ET Edge Supply Chain Summit. He attributed this achievement to the development of expressways, economic corridors, and smart infrastructure, marking a significant milestone towards India's $5 trillion economy goal. Gadkari emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancements, particularly the transition from manual toll booths to digital tolling systems like FASTag, to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce congestion. Furthermore, he underlined the shift towards clean fuels such as ethanol, biofuels, electric vehicles (EVs), and hydrogen as pivotal strategies for sustainable transportation. Gadkari highlighted the potential of hydrogen as the fuel of the future, suggesting that India could become a net energy exporter within the next 5–6 years. The minister shared updates on various new mobility initiatives, including the implementation of Rs 600 crore hydrogen highway pilot projects and the introduction of innovative vehicles like CNG motorcycles and electric trucks. These initiatives signify India's commitment to fostering a cleaner transport ecosystem and aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. Gadkari also emphasized the importance of multimodal infrastructure projects, such as logistics parks and enhanced port connectivity, in reducing freight costs, boosting MSMEs, and driving economic growth. With a focus on national highway expansion and the development of economic corridors, Gadkari highlighted the transformative impact of these projects in unlocking regional growth and creating a sustainable future for India. He urged stakeholders to prioritize cleaner fuels, inclusive infrastructure, and multimodal logistics to steer India towards the next phase of growth and prosperity.
