L&T Energy GreenTech, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has successfully won a bid to construct and operate India's largest green hydrogen production plant at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Panipat refinery in Haryana. With a production capacity of 10,000 tons per annum, this facility is set to become one of the country's leading green hydrogen plants. The bidding process was highly competitive, with L&T Energy GreenTech offering green hydrogen at ₹397 per kg, slightly lower than other bidders. The project, to be executed on a build-own-operate model, is expected to ensure continuous green hydrogen production using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources, aligning with India's strategy to decarbonize its energy and industrial sectors. The tender, which mandates round-the-clock green hydrogen production, faced initial setbacks with two cancellations due to limited industry interest. However, the reissued tender saw significant participation from five leading firms, indicating a shift towards confidence and readiness in India's green hydrogen ecosystem. This initiative not only supports IOCL's plan to integrate clean hydrogen into its refining operations but also contributes to India's ambitious transition towards green energy. Furthermore, it highlights L&T's growing presence in the clean energy infrastructure domain, paving the way for a cleaner and sustainable energy future.
