Saudi Arabia's NEOM green hydrogen project, in collaboration with Air Products, has reached an 80% completion milestone. The project encompasses a green hydrogen facility, wind garden, solar farm, and transmission infrastructure. Vital equipment like wind turbines and hydrogen storage vessels have been installed, with a target completion date for the power generation sites by mid-2026 and the first ammonia production in 2027. The NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, a joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM, is spearheading this initiative to become the world's largest green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered entirely by renewable energy. Situated in the futuristic NEOM region, the facility is set to produce substantial carbon-free hydrogen daily for conversion into green ammonia. This move is projected to significantly cut global carbon emissions and replace fossil fuels with clean hydrogen in industrial and transportation sectors. By leveraging ammonia as a hydrogen carrier, the facility will enable efficient long-distance transportation to international markets.
