NTPC Green Energy has partnered with Honeywell in an effort to explore the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. This collaboration aims to broaden NTPC Green's green fuels portfolio by blending SAF with jet fuels, a move expected to positively impact the company's projects. SAF, an alternative to traditional aviation fuel, is derived from non-petroleum feedstocks and helps in reducing emissions from air transportation. The partnership will involve the utilization of Honeywell's eFining technology to produce SAF using carbon dioxide (CO₂) feedstock captured from NTPC's power plants and green hydrogen. Furthermore, India's commitment to reaching net zero emissions by 2070, announced at the 26th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in November 2021, underscores the importance of initiatives like the NTPC Green-Honeywell partnership. The joint efforts are poised to leverage Honeywell's expertise in SAF solutions to address emissions from thermal energy, promote green hydrogen adoption, diversify feedstocks for SAF production, and ultimately contribute to India's sustainability goals.
