STL, a global leader in optical and digital solutions, has partnered with Hygenco to establish Maharashtra's first green hydrogen and green oxygen production facility for optical fibre in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in sustainable manufacturing, with the green hydrogen project catering to supply green hydrogen and oxygen to STL's glass preform facility. By leveraging 100% green hydrogen, STL aims to become one of the world's first optical fibre manufacturers to deploy green hydrogen in its production processes, supporting its ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2030. Hygenco will be responsible for building, owning, and operating the green hydrogen facility, ensuring a reliable supply for 20 years. The CEO of STL emphasized the importance of decarbonization in the optical fibre industry and expressed pride in leading the integration of green hydrogen into large-scale manufacturing. The initiative is poised to reduce carbon emissions by around 30% annually. The green hydrogen plant features advanced technologies, such as autonomous energy management systems and real-time monitoring, enhancing safety and operational efficiency. Overall, this collaboration signifies a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for India and the global optical fibre industry.
