Tata Power has partnered with the Directorate of Employment and Training in Tamil Nadu to establish Solar Skill Centres of Excellence (SCOEs) at four Government ITIs in Pettai, Thoothukudi, Sattur, and Virudhunagar. These centers will provide specialized training in solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen to empower youth for careers in the renewable energy industry, promoting sustainability in the power sector. The MoU between Tata Power's Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) and DET outlines TPSDI's role in training content development, course delivery, and assessments, while DET will offer infrastructure support through its ITI network. The collaboration signifies a joint effort to enhance skill development and support Tamil Nadu's renewable energy objectives. TPSDI, with accreditation as a Dual Awarding Body, has trained over 350,000 individuals in areas like green energy, transmission, distribution, and safety. The institute, operating in key Indian states, focuses on gender inclusivity, with 40% of trainees being women. Additionally, Tata Power's solar manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli employs 80% women, reinforcing the company's commitment to inclusive growth and green skills development.
