Toyota has commenced testing alternative powertrains in India with its recent focus on the Toyota Aqua Hybrid after its earlier exploration of the Mirai FCEV. The uncamouflaged Toyota Aqua Hybrid suggests Toyota's interest in evaluating hybrid powertrain feasibility in India's hatchback market. Although uncertain about the Aqua's Indian launch, its unique Bipolar Nickel Hydrogen battery pack sets it apart. This innovative battery technology promises a significantly extended service life compared to traditional Nickel Hydrogen batteries. The Aqua Hybrid, built on the TNGA-B platform, combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a power output of 81bhp and 141Nm torque, achieving an impressive claimed efficiency of 35.8kmpl. If introduced in India, the Aqua Hybrid would fill a gap as the nation's sole hybrid hatchback, meeting the increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
