Malaysia Launches Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station to Drive Innovation in Clean Energy
Key Ideas
  • Malaysia introduces the RM15 million Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station (MHRS) at Precinct 2 in Putrajaya to promote innovation in the hydrogen-based mobility sector.
  • The project, supported by various organizations, aims to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a fuel in the transportation sector, aligning with the country's goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050.
  • The MHRS station educates the public on hydrogen technology, with plans to have hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) on Malaysian roads by 2030, setting the groundwork for a hydrogen-powered mobility transformation.
  • The initiative not only serves as a clean energy infrastructure catalyst but also positions Malaysia as a regional hub for hydrogen technology, encouraging investments and innovations in the sector.
Malaysia has launched the Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station (MHRS) Development Project in Putrajaya, signaling a significant step towards a clean energy future. The RM15 million pilot project in the hydrogen mobility sector in Peninsular Malaysia is located at Precinct 2 and has the capacity to provide 50 kilograms of hydrogen daily. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang highlighted that while there are currently no hydrogen-powered vehicles in Malaysia, establishing basic infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) refueling is crucial for the sector's growth. The project, supported by various organizations including the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd, and local automotive companies, aims to drive innovation in hydrogen technology, with plans to have FCEVs on Malaysian roads by 2030. The MHRS not only serves as an educational platform for the public but also paves the way for investments and innovations, positioning Malaysia as a regional hub for hydrogen technology. Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad, NMB CEO, emphasized the role of MHRS in bolstering clean energy infrastructure and transforming Malaysia's mobility landscape towards hydrogen-powered vehicles.
