ZeroAvia and Loganair Partner to Revolutionize Air Travel with Hydrogen-Electric Engines
Key Ideas
  • ZeroAvia and Loganair have signed an MoU to introduce ZeroAvia's hydrogen-electric engine, the ZA600, in Loganair's regional air routes in Scotland, promising cost reductions and lower maintenance.
  • The collaboration will focus on certifying the ZA600 in smaller aircraft like the Cessna Caravan and eventually expand to larger aircraft like the Twin Otter and ATR family, aiming for up to 80 seats.
  • ZeroAvia is also working on a Liquid Hydrogen System Integration & Flight Test project with UK government funding to develop a liquid hydrogen management system for aircraft, aiming to get a liquid hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft in the air.
  • This project will drive the evolution of liquid hydrogen technology, enabling the testing of in-flight operations and refuelling processes, ultimately contributing to the advancement of zero-emission aircraft technology.

ZeroAvia is also working on a Liquid Hydrogen System Integration & Flight Test project with UK government funding to develop a liquid hydrogen management system for aircraft. This project, with an investment of £10.8m, aims to test a liquid hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft, which would be a world-first achievement. The project is crucial for driving the evolution of liquid hydrogen technology, enabling in-flight testing and validating refuelling operations. Ultimately, it will play a significant role in advancing zero-emission aircraft technology and fostering hydrogen airport infrastructure.
