The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther, expressed Germany's reliance on Nigeria, among other countries, to meet its hydrogen needs and transition to green energy. In a two-day working group meeting in Abuja sponsored by GIZ, key stakeholders gathered to examine Nigeria's draft hydrogen policy. Gunther emphasized Nigeria's renewable energy potential and strategic advantages in the global hydrogen economy. Dr. Marcus Wagner of GIZ Nigeria highlighted the importance of the policy in building a sustainable hydrogen economy, positioning Nigeria as a pioneer in Africa. Minister Atiku Bagudu discussed hydrogen as a potential major foreign income earner for Nigeria and the importance of strategic planning for its economic diversification. The workshop aimed to gather feedback on the Zero Draft Hydrogen Policy, which outlines roles, infrastructure development, and safety standards. The collaboration between Germany and Nigeria is crucial for achieving climate goals and fostering a sustainable hydrogen economy.
