Indian Oil Corporation, India's largest oil-marketing company, is making significant strides towards sustainability by planning to establish a network of green hydrogen fuel dispensing stations nationwide. This move is part of IOCL's ambitious USD 30 billion strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2046. The company's Chairman, Arvinder Singh Sahney, highlighted the phased approach, beginning with replacing grey hydrogen at refineries with green hydrogen and later expanding its usage in the mobility sector to build a robust green hydrogen ecosystem. The milestone project in Panipat falls in line with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner fuel alternatives. With India currently having only a few hydrogen dispensing stations, IOCL's emphasis on developing infrastructure for hydrogen-fueled transportation is crucial. The company's retailing efforts from the Panipat plant are set to play a pivotal role in enhancing green hydrogen accessibility. Beyond domestic focus, IOCL is keen on exploring export opportunities for green hydrogen, positioning itself as a key player in the national and international transition to clean energy.
