John Cockerill is intensifying its green energy operations in India by aiming to double its electrolyzer manufacturing capacity from 1 GW to 2 GW by 2029. This strategic move is in line with India's focus on green hydrogen and achieving net-zero emissions. Vivek Bhide, the Regional President – India and Group Transformation Officer at John Cockerill, emphasized India's significant role in the company's global green hydrogen business due to confirmed demand. The company is partnering with AM Green in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, to establish an electrolyzer manufacturing plant. The facility will utilize pressurized alkaline electrolyzer technology, catering to industrial-scale applications. AM Green will utilize the electrolyzers to produce green fuels like ammonia and methanol, contributing to decarbonizing challenging sectors. India stands out as a key market for John Cockerill's green energy initiatives, with plans to supply a substantial portion of the country's targeted electrolyzer capacity by 2030. The company also ventures into diverse sectors in India, including defense manufacturing, nuclear servicing support, and steel decarbonization technologies, aligning with sustainability and economic growth objectives. To strengthen its local presence, John Cockerill is developing robust engineering, operations, and maintenance services in India. Bhide highlighted the company's focus on local innovation and technology development, further establishing India as a pivotal hub in its global operations.
