MOL's Wind Hunter Project Selected by NEDO for Hydrogen Society Development
Key Ideas
  • MOL's Wind Hunter Project, utilizing wind power for hydrogen production, was chosen by NEDO for a hydrogen society project, focusing on vessel optimization and hydrogen supply chains.
  • The project aims to commercialize a hydrogen production vessel by the 2030s, contributing to MOL's goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
  • The Wind Hunter project successfully supplied green hydrogen production with offshore wind for the first time globally, emphasizing MOL's commitment to renewable energy and clean energy supply chains.
  • MOL's participation in Expo 2025 showcases the Wind Hunter model and aligns with their sustainability goals, emphasizing the importance of innovation in marine technology and environmental conservation.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) in Tokyo has been selected by Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to take part in a project focused on researching the potential for achieving a hydrogen society. The project, titled "Development of Technologies for Realizing a Hydrogen Society / Regional Hydrogen Utilization Technology Development," includes investigating optimal wind conditions for producing green hydrogen energy, building a demonstration vessel for the Wind Hunter Project, and exploring hydrogen supply chains. MOL aims to commercialize a hydrogen production vessel by the 2030s as part of its strategy to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Wind Hunter project, which uses offshore wind energy for hydrogen production and supply, successfully demonstrated the first global supply of green hydrogen production with offshore wind. MOL's participation in Expo 2025 in Osaka further highlights their commitment to sustainability, innovation, and contributing to a decarbonized, hydrogen-based society.
