- Potential to export green ammonia via Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area through a single point mooring solution, showcasing feasibility.
- Mid West region identified for large-scale renewable electricity generation, enabling significant hydrogen production annually.
- State's investment of $1 billion in Strategic Industries Fund to expedite energy and industrial projects, aiming to secure WA as a leader in green hydrogen exports.
A recent international study, the Trilateral Hydrogen Hub Feasibility (TrHyHub), has shed light on Western Australia's increasing potential to export locally-produced hydrogen and ammonia to Europe. The collaborative effort involved the WA government, Mid West Ports Authority, Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Frauhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Germany, aiming to explore global green energy opportunities in WA. The study focused on creating an energy supply chain to export hydrogen and ammonia from Western Australia to Germany. It recommended the feasibility of exporting green ammonia via a single point mooring solution in the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area. Additionally, the study highlighted the Mid West region's capability for large-scale renewable electricity generation, which could support the annual production of millions of tonnes of hydrogen. WA's Mid West Minister, Jackie Jarvis, emphasized the importance of diversifying the state's economy and fostering local production. The $1 billion investment in the Strategic Industries Fund aims to accelerate energy and industrial projects, positioning Western Australia as a key player in the global green hydrogen market.
