Xodus Secures Land in Western Australia for Renewable Energy Project
Key Ideas
  • Xodus has secured land in Western Australia's Mid-West region for a renewable energy project aiming to produce hydrogen for decarbonizing mining and heavy transport sectors.
  • The project, known as Warradarge Energy, will be developed in two phases, with the potential to scale up to an ammonia export project.
  • Australia's goal is to lead the global hydrogen market, currently valued at over $225 billion, positioning this initiative as a significant step towards achieving that objective.
  • Xodus, along with its partners, is actively progressing the project by negotiating power supply agreements with wind farms and engaging with offtake partners for the generated hydrogen.
Global energy consultancy Xodus has acquired land in the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area in Western Australia for their renewable energy project, previously named Project MercurHy and now rebranded as Warradarge Energy. The project, which was first announced in 2022, will be carried out in two main phases. Initially, the focus will be on producing domestic hydrogen to support the decarbonization efforts in the mining and heavy transport sectors. There are also plans to expand the project into an ammonia export venture. Xodus, in collaboration with partners, is actively involved in the technical and commercial aspects of the project, including feasibility studies, concept design, regulatory approvals, and the incorporation of renewable energy sources. Simon Allison, the VP of Xodus for Asia Pacific and a Strategic Advisory Board Member at Warradarge Energy, highlighted the company's pivotal role in project development. Australia's ambition is to take the lead in the global hydrogen market, which holds a substantial value exceeding $225 billion. This initiative marks a significant step towards realizing Australia's hydrogen aspirations, with Xodus at the forefront of driving the project forward through partnerships, negotiations, and strategic planning.
