The European Commission has announced the launch of the EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform to support European industry in sourcing energy products and raw materials. This initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of European companies, promote security of supply, diversification, and decarbonisation. The Platform will host mechanisms covering hydrogen, raw materials, natural gas, and biomethane, with possibilities for other products in the future.
The Hydrogen Mechanism is the first initiative under this platform, focusing on accelerating the hydrogen market by facilitating connections between buyers and sellers, aiding infrastructure development, and enabling financing for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives like ammonia, methanol, and eSAF. The Mechanism, operating until 2029, is designed to match and aggregate demand and supply, provide infrastructure development insights, and link with financial solutions specifically for hydrogen.
Commissioner Dan Jørgensen will inaugurate the event by delivering a keynote speech, followed by a technical session introducing the Platform's features and registration guidelines. The Hydrogen Mechanism, part of the Regulation on the internal markets for renewable gas, natural gas, and hydrogen, will collect data on market demands and supplies, organize matchmaking services, assess infrastructure project interests, and offer information on financial products in partnership with financial institutions.
